Our Partners
The Northern Colorado Foodshed Project (NCFP) is dedicated to strengthening our regional food system by creating opportunities that support both local producers and community food access. We work to bridge the gap between small and mid-sized farms and the people who need fresh, nutritious food the most. Our mission is rooted in collaboration, resilience, and equity, ensuring that farmers, food producers, and community members all have a seat at the table in shaping a more sustainable food future.
Our Work Leading to Familiar Foods:
NCFP has been deeply engaged in local food systems development for years, leading initiatives like:
The Northern Colorado Farm Business Accelerator providing new farmers with land, infrastructure, and mentorship to jumpstart their journey into farm business ownership.
Community food access programs like Veg Out, which redirected surplus farmers’ market produce to local food banks to support food access and create alternative markets for local producers.
The Poudre Valley Producers Program, a micro-distribution network connecting farms to local markets.
A two-year regional food system planning process, identifying critical gaps and innovative solutions for Northern Colorado’s local food economy with a range of partners in Larimer County.
Familiar Foods is the next step in this work—a mobile market and aggregation program that connects local farms with communities affected by inequitable food systems, while also creating new market opportunities for farmers and food businesses. Through strategic partnerships, like our collaboration with the Food Bank for Larimer County, we’re building a more connected, equitable, and resilient local food system—one that works for producers and eaters alike.

The Food Bank for Larimer County (FBLC) envisions a hunger-free community, and has been committed to ending hunger in Larimer County for more than 40 years. In 2024, we served more than 54,000 unique individuals throughout Northern Colorado, and distributed enough food for more than 10.5 million meals, with 43% of that food comprised of fresh produce. FBLC is, and has been, a pillar of community resilience, connection, and vitality. With the help of over 11,000 volunteers, 50 full-time staff members, and an inspiring outpouring of community support, we are proud to be leaders in not only the fight to end hunger, but the work of nourishing healthy communities.
Our Work Leading to Familiar Foods:
In 2020, FBLC launched the Local Food Purchasing Program, purchasing unsold food from farmers throughout Northern Colorado, FBLC has been investing heavily in vibrant, sustainable local food economies, and bringing the benefits of nutritious local food to people in need at the same time.
Then, in 2023, in partnership with the Northern Colorado Foodshed Project, we launched Veg Out, taking our Local Farm Purchasing Program to the next level, introducing a weekly farmers market pickup to rescue fresh produce that had gone unsold, buying it up at a wholesale rates, and getting them into the hands of neighbors in need that very same day.
Familiar Foods elevates this further by more deeply integrating our local food system, bringing regional farm aggregation in-house. Now, not only will we continue to have Veg Out present at weekly farmers markets, we’ll also be able to redirect unsold produce from the Familiar Foods truck to our neighbors in need while supporting farmers’ bottom line. Through this project, we’re building a more connected, equitable, and resilient local food system—one that works for producers and eaters - no matter their income - alike.

The Colorado Trust is a statewide foundation focused on advancing health equity in Colorado. Their mission is all about making sure every community—no matter where you live or what your background is—has a fair shot at living a healthy life. They invest in long-term, community-driven work that builds power and resilience from the ground up.
We’re proud to be part of their Community Resilience Initiatives (CRI), which support locally led projects working to strengthen community networks and tackle systemic issues. Our funding comes through the Building Food Systems cohort, which brings together folks across the state who are rethinking how food gets grown, shared, and accessed—especially in communities that have been left out of the conversation for too long.
We’re grateful to be working alongside them and others in the cohort who are pushing for real, lasting change and growth in our food system.
This project is possible because of their support. We're grateful to be part of a cohort of people doing meaningful, on-the-ground work to create lasting change in Colorado’s food systems.
